A small Italian motorcycle manufacturer, Bimota was founded in 1973. Originally, the company was engaged in customizing top models by famous Japanese brands – Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Honda; later on, Dukati and Yamaha were added to the list. Bimota was focused mainly on research and development, and its success in the 70s-80s was the result of hard efforts and creativity of Massimo Tamburini, the legendary chief designer and co-founder of Bimota. A talented engineer, Massimo was also involved in the development of some models by other Italian companies; Dukati is one of them. The first bike under the Bimota nameplate, the storied HB1 model, was assembled in 1975. It was equipped with the four-cylinder SOHS 736cc motor made by Honda (69hp) and the finest parts for that time – Ceriani front fork, Fontana brakes, Marzocchi rear dampers, and so on. Just a dozen such bikes were produced, and all of them were designed for racing, not for use on city roads.
Throughout its history, Bimota created many impressive models, which brought the company worldwide fame and recognition. Made with technical and styling excellence, such motorbikes as the YB3, YB4, Tesi, and DB5 won several world championships. Although, in the early 2000s, Bimota experienced serious financial troubles. Partly, it can be explained by problems with sponsors, but some experts consider it's because of absence of the proprietary engine developed by Bimota. In fact, the major Japanese manufacturers refused to supply Bimota with their motors individually – the company had to purchase the whole bike to use the engine in their own motorcycle, and it turned out to be very costly. However, Bimota is still on the market, and its modern lineup consists of several sports bikes including the BB3, DB8, and Tesi. Each of them is exclusive and can be customized taking into account all possible requirements of potential buyers.
Actually, many motorcycles by Bimota can be considered as masterpieces with a very limited production. Driving pleasure, performance, technical sophistication, and exclusivity have always been the main principles of this company. However, any of its bikes requires quality Bimota parts and accessories.
