Cobra is a brand of mini motocross bikes with a manufacturing experience of over 25 years. Their motorcycles are some of the most competitive in the mini class – they allowed Cobra to win over 300 National titles during the history of the company, including more than 200 titles in the last 10 years. Besides, Cobra is the only manufacturer of competition off-road bikes which makes its motorcycles in the U.S. The company's history started in the early 1990s, when Bud Maimone and his son Brent were engaged in racing in the 50cc class, which was at the dawn of its popularity. At that time, there was no possibility to get a race bike for this type of competition from the factory, that’s why participants drove highly modified recreational bikes. Bud tried to convince several manufacturers to make a race-ready bike and after their denial started the production by himself.

Bud Maimone made a potent small motorcycle that became Loretta Lynn’s AMA champion right after its debut in 1994. This success even led to some controversy, as some doubted that Cobra had manufactured the whole amount of bikes needed for homologation. Though, the title was reinstated several months later and the history of remarkable success of Cobra motorcycles had begun. In the following years, a broad range of the world’s top pro racers used bikes by Cobra in their competitions. Such famous racers as Canard, Izzy, Durham, Millsaps, Bowers, Chisholm, Bell, and many others rode Cobras in the early stages of their careers and succeeded.

Originally, Cobra headquartered in Youngstown, Ohio, but in 2006, the company experienced significant changes. A new management team joined the company and Cobra moved to Hillsdale, Michigan, where the new factory opened its doors to accommodate technological expansion needs and sales growth. The key of the company’s success is that it doesn't just assemble motorcycles – Cobra designs and produces a broad range of its own components including engines, suspension parts and frames. It allows the brand to not only be innovative, but also have the agility needed to stay on the cutting edge.
