Since 1972 Dainese has been making the history of motorcycling safety.
D-air® detects automatically an unsafe situation and it activates to protect. It is the first airbag system designed specifically for motorcyclists. The natural evolution of our mission: to create the next frontier in the protection of humans.
The airbag is what makes D-air® unique. It controls air to create an effective shield that surrounds the rider’s body in case of an impact.
Other airbags inflate, D-air® protects.
A patented internal Microfilaments Technology ensures that the air that inflates the airbag propagates in balanced way. The result is that every single centimeter of the area is covered by effective protection.
The software and its algorithm are the core of the electronic control unit. The brain of D-air®, that detects and analyses data from the sensors 1.000 times per second.
Developed for over 20 years and adopted in MotoGP races since 2007, our algorithm has been refined in order to guarantee the highest level of reliability and safety.
1.000 times per second safer with D-air®.
Every D-air® airbag system is conceived and developed specifically for its field of application, designed to react and to activate differently depending on the environment where is being used. From the race track, to open roads, through the city streets and even on ski slopes. Each D-air® system is different, made around our passions.
Safety at its highest level, for everyone.
The proprietary Pro-Armor material utilizes an innovative design language inspired by fractals, the language of nature to create complex structures. This design language enables the protector to simultaneously achieve a high level of protection and extreme flexibility, able to replicate the body’s biomechanics by maintaining extreme mobility and coverage.
CARBON ELASTOMER
Carbon elastomer is at the heart of Pro-Armor protection. In the event of an accident, its nanometric structure disperses impact energy over its surfaces extremely effectively. The polymer reacts to the impact by converting the energy into heat and dissipating it through the material itself. The unique performance and properties of this material make it possible to absorb up to 83% of the impact energy striking the protector.
FRACTALS
Fractals are geometric shapes also present in nature that repeat themselves in space, dynamically changing their structure. Dainese uses fractals in the Pro-Armor family to create a dynamic geometry that meets the requirements of protection and comfort simultaneously. The denser structure along the spine extends dynamically into a more open structure on the sides, further reducing the thickness and weight of the protector while maintaining its high performance.
ANATOMY
Over 30 years’ research into the dynamics of the human body in motorcycling has made it possible to engineer a revolutionary protector. Pro-Armor family has been conceived and designed to mould itself to the rider‘s body.
BREATHABILITY
The fractal dynamics of Dainese Pro-Armor have made it possible to engineer a highly-breathable structure, with air spaces that widely cover the surface area of protector. This enables substantial airflow between the inside and outside environment with enormous benefits for body heat regulation in any climatic conditions.
LIGHTWEIGHT
The latest-generation carbon elastomer compound, intelligently distributed in space using Dainese fractal geometry in a highly-perforated structure, has made it possible to reduce the weight by over 60%.
ERGONOMICS
Unique patented buffer pads integrated in Pro-Armor Back give the rider unprecedented freedom of movement. These elastic systems, also made of high-performance carbon elastomer, are located at the back’s essential points of movement. The buffer pads can be compressed on themselves or stretched, giving the back protector freedom of rotation, extension, compression and torsion.
A further level of excellence is achieved by the D-Tec Department with the D-Skin 2.0. Starting from carefully selected full-grain cowhide leather featuring long intact fibers, Dainese engineered and developed processes to attain new benchmarks in abrasion, traction and tear resistance.
Because of its softness and flexibility beyond comparison, the D-Skin 2.0 is extremely comfortable, although maintaining the same thickness of other cowhide leathers present in the collection. Special treatments with resins and silicon waxes improve the technical features of this excellent leather.
Flexagon redefines the standards of protective comfort with its innovative construction technology. The exceptional flexibility is aided by overlapping layers of Crash Absorb® memory retention foam that move independently of one another, and follow the anatomy of the body.
Its ergonomic pattern of hexagon shaped soft pads provide comfort and maximum freedom of movement (6 sides, mobility on the 30° 90° and 150° axes) along with effective protection.
D-Dry® Plus is a proprietary microporous laminated structure that creates a waterproof and breathable fabric. Micropores are thousands of times smaller than a drop of water, but larger than water vapor, so they exclude water allowing moist vapor on the inside to move outward.
D-Dry® Plus is devised of a unique, new three layer construction. This includes an ultra lightweight scrim fabric that is laminated on the back of the waterproof/breathable layer, sandwiching between the scrim, the membrane and the face fabric. This new overall construction is lighter, more packable and more durable.
D-Dry® Plus effectively balances protection from rain and snow on the outside (30.000 mm water column) with the ability to let warm perspiration escape outward during high-output activities (30.000 g/m2/24hrs).
Direct from the world of MotoGP, the safety and lightweightness Dainese offers it champions is now available to everyone. The soft, full-grain kangaroo hide with a polished finish measures 0.9 mm (+/- 0.1 thickness) and ensures excellent wear resistance. It guarantees garments for dynamic sport use the best ratio between lightweightness and performance currently on the market.
Dainese developed and engineered this genuine cowhide leather with the protection of the rider in mind, ensuring high performance levels in terms of abrasion, tear, cutting and traction resistance.
The quality of the carefully selected raw material guarantees unprecedented flexibility and softness. State-of-the-art leather finishing technologies applied to the Tutu leather translate into exceptional driving comfort and reliable water and oil repellent properties.
The Armoform concept defines a new generation of hardshell protective gear. The hard polyethylene shell used in Armoform is precedent setting for its ability to dissipate shock over a wider area, to slide across a crash surface and to prevent ‘piercing’, leading to less injury from sharp objects like rocks and branches as well as world class protection at high speed.
The fractal scaling reticulation defines a supportive ribbing, with thicker pattern in high impact zones and tapered near the edges for mobility and flexibility.
Harnessing the many benefits of titanium and aluminum – from light weight to outstanding abrasion resistance and controlled sliding – this new-design shoulder armor benefits from seamless integration and increased coverage to provide outstanding protection. Advanced multilayer undershell protection dissipates impact forces to CE 1621.1. Level 2.
D-WP® is a material developed exclusively for footwear and ensures maximum comfort in any weather conditions. Products designed with D-WP® technology have excellent waterproof and water-repellent properties, performance guaranteed by the specific structure of the material and by special surface treatments.
D-WP® textiles undergo rigorous testing to simulate the reaction of products to different weather conditions and to different stresses.
