Regardless of your motorcycle make, model or year of production, it is a pricey investment, so the last thing you want to find out is that somebody stole your bike while you were shopping or drinking coffee with your friends. To prevent that from happening you can use a motorcycle disc lock. Lightweight and compact it will not take much room or affect your bike's fuel consumption and performance, however, it will help you quickly secure your two-wheeler to protect it from thieves. A motorcycle disc lock provides a high level of protection as it is very difficult to break, cut or force.
Motorcycle disc locks come in a variety of designs, so every rider can find the right one to fit their application. There are U-shaped and V-shaped locks, disc-lock alarms, combo locks, and many more. Whereas they differ in look and construction, all of them provide the same basic principle of operation. Regardless of the disk lock type or model you have, it is attached to your disc rotor, usually on the front wheel, and has a pin that is used to go through one of your rotor’s vent holes. Once activated, a disc lock makes it impossible to rotate the wheel.
No matter a motorcycle disc lock you choose it has to be extremely durable. For this reason, most disc locks are manufactured of rigid materials like hardened and/or forged steel that perfectly resists sawing and cutting and ensures years of dependable service. The locking mechanism itself should also be very reliable and difficult to break as it is usually considered to be the weakest link of any safety system. At the same time, a motorcycle disc lock should be lightweight and compact since it is intended to be used on a regular basis, and should not overload your bike during your rides.
While most motorcycle disc locks are universal products, you need to make sure the lock you are going to order fits your application. First and foremost, you should check that the diameter of the pin is less than the diameter of your rotor vent holes. No less important is the shape and length of a lock since the lock should be convenient enough to quickly and easily lock your bike. As for the color of your lock, it doesn’t affect its usability, however, it can be considered as an additional safety feature. A brightly colored motorcycle disc lock may repel thieves as they clearly see that the bike is protected with an anti-thief system.
If you are not satisfied with the level of protection that a regular disc lock provides, you may go with a disc-lock alarm. This product is developed to install on your rotor in the same way as most regular disc locks, yet, it provides an additional layer of security thanks to the use of an alarm system. This means that if somebody manages or even tries to unlock your security device, you will hear a loud sound caused by your alarm system. In addition, most disc-lock alarms come with shock and movement sensors to ensure even higher level of protection.
