Adapted to paved roads and capable off the beaten track, dual sport motorcycles provide decent performance wherever you ride. However, having such a dual nature, some of them may need adjustment depending on their working conditions and equipment installed. Engine tuning is a popular and, sometimes, even necessary procedure to optimize engine efficiency according to the rider’s needs. Modern fuel injection systems offer large possibilities in this regard. You could alter the air-to-fuel ratio, add or reduce fuel supply in any working mode, or just let the system adjust itself automatically.
However, to use these advantages, you will need aftermarket equipment. For instance, a stock or aftermarket electronic control module can work together with a special tuning kit that includes another controller, a wideband oxygen sensor, and wiring – such a system relies on the optimized AFR. Also, there are special adapters and software allowing you to reprogram your ECU and change its fuel maps. Some chips contain custom maps compiled by professionals for certain models of bikes.
