There are three types of brake pad used on modern Motorcycles and these fall into these groups, Organic, semi metallic or sintered. Quickly explained, semi metallic pads are blended with up to 30 or 50% cheap steel fibre, organic pads are made with man made fibres such as aramid or Twaron bonded together with a petrochemical resin and sintered metal pads are copper alloy fused together under heat and pressure.
EBC Brakes makes only Organic and Sintered Brake pads, company do not subscribe to the steel fibre technology as suitable for motorcycle brakes for numerous reasons.
Organic pads have attracted many enthusiasts because of the way they work. They are inherently “Softer” easier on rotors and have a brake “feel” preferred by many riders. EBC make only two formulations of organic pads for motorcycles which are described as follows.
Made with Dupont aramid fibre base this material have sold over 18 million sets alone since adopted. It is surely one of the best selling Motorcycle brake materials ever made and has passed every known standard test time and time again. It has been rated by top German consumer Magazine Motorrad as a compound that outperformed all compared organic pads in friction level tested. DMX compound is TUV tested and approved and is the first ever material to pass the European ECE R90 brake safety test where it was tested alongside sintered metal pads. With a GG rated friction rating, technically this material has a lower rating for brake power over sintered pads but on the machine, which is where it counts, this materials impresses.
Having past the ECE R90 test on motorcycles designed for sintered pads there is no doubt that this materials can be used to replace sintered pads on most motorcycles with safety.
This is the EBC pad compound used for larger and heavier Enduro or what company sometimes call Paris-Dakar type or dual purpose machines. The material is carbon based with aramid fibres and as a softer pad is less aggressive to rotors and runs cooler than sintered metal. It will last longer than its stable mate the DMX formula in dual purpose use which is why EBC make this alternate grade for that different group of Motorcycles.
Again the EBC philosophy is to give the customer a choice and offer a range of pad compounds ideal for each market segment.

For the ultimate durability EBC presents it’s “R” Series high density ATV & dirt sintered series pads. A sintered copper material made in EBC own USA facility, the “R” Series of heavy duty ATV and moto-x pads have become an aftermarket standard offering high durability, high resistance to contamination by mud, water, sand and grit etc. offering reduced disc damage and long pad life.
Many of us enjoy riding off road with trying to be Malcolm Smith and getting the brakes red hot. For that group the ATV Sintered R series pads are an ideal choice for Off Road Riding. R Series pads are a sintered copper alloy pad made in EBC company USA sintered production plant to deliver a medium to high friction pad, at an attractive price point that lasts well in all conditions of wet, mud water or sand.
Sintered brakes are a very modern and interesting technology. ATV Sintered R Series pads are equally well applied to two wheel and four wheel machines and as such are very well liked amongst ATV riders especially due to the conditions on some rides where the rear ATV rotor hangs down in the mud and chews through lower quality pads in a weekend. The EBC series pads are available for all modern ATV and Moto X bikes and are priced well below original parts.
R Series pads are also designed for minimum rotor abrasion and will not damage your bikes brake rotors. If you have a wear life problem with an ATV EBC does make an even longer lasting pad with its SV Series Severe Duty range, shown on this page.
The SV Series Severe duty brake pad is a High density sintered copper alloy for longest possible life in utility applications on ATV, especially in wet, mud, dust and dirt conditions.

Simply explained, these are the best brake pads the EBC sell!
EBC Brakes™ Carbon X or TT Brake Pads are suitable for either street or off road use. They are created from impregnated hybrid carbon to give medium lifetime and a cool disc braking temperature.
One name always comes to mind when talking about the best in off road riders and company old friend and long time EBC outlet in his shops Malcolm Smith is an avid supporter of the EBC Brakes Carbon X or TT Brakes range and has used them for years in Trail and Enduro riding.
Also multi time champ Randy Hawkins has been a long time user of EBC carbon based X pads (or TT pads as EBC call them in Europe for years.)
Although the Carbon X or TT Brakes will not outlast a sintered copper brake pad it has the unique benefit of lower heat generation and transfer. When riding off road in fast dry conditions such a feature is a major benefit.
In EBC years of listening to the faster riders company have seen cases where the rear brake rotor can be glowing red in night rides which shows just how hot trail braking can get a rotor.
Stopping this getting to the bikes hydraulics is greatly assisted by using a Carbon based pad such as the X or TT pad.
In Europe these pads are selected by adding the suffix TT to the part number and in the USA by adding the letter X after the FA (Freeman Automotive) series part number. EBC Carbon X or TT Brakes are coded red in paint finish and is equally happy on an ATV or a Moto X or Enduro bike and is also used in ATV Sport riding.
However EBC caution riders using these pads in ATV use especially on rear rotors as wear life may be shorter than sintered pads originally installed in the original unit build. With the lower price point compared to sintered, millions of riders still choose the carbon pads. For Street Enduro use such as the “Paris-Dakar” style DR bikes for road use EBC Carbon X or TT Brakes are an ideal choice, it has been R 90 approved on many of such models in Europe and is safe for road use because of its ability to work effectively when hot.
Product Information
This is EBC company best selling sport ATV pad! For several years now this successful carbon graphite formula has been the choice of top enduro and moto-x riders for certain conditions around the world. The main advantage of this type of material is its lack of heat generation or conduction, which keeps both the rotor and caliper cool. Top Enduro and Hare Scrambles USA riders prefer this material for fast and dry riding conditions. The material is also very useable for standard sport ATV useage. Also TUV tested and KBA approved for street use on enduro bikes.
The TT series or X pads do not last as long as a sintered pad but are a strong favourite amongst Enduro riders due to their low heat transfer.

These semi-sintered VLD pads are a limited range available for some cruisers and big where extended life may be an advantage. Durability is almost identical to a full sintered pad with great brake performance over a wide range of operating temperatures.
These pads are TÜV approved and are manufactured using the NUCAP® of Canada NRS™ backing plate hook system. This NRS™ system uses small hooks pressed into the surface of the backing plate which bonds the friction material to the backing plate more securely than adhesive bonding.
The NRS™ licence was granted to EBC Brakes™ to help improve the quality of brake pads by reducing the chance of pad separation when the vehicle is used in severe wet conditions.
What does R90 mean? Cheap and nasty motorcycle brakes are the quickest way to an accident no matter where or how you ride. EBC Brakes welcomes the new legislation on ECE R90 brake safety testing that shuts the door on unworthy parts. Until recently all EBC Brakes were tested by the notorious German TUV test centres and carried the KBA (German Motor Vehicle Organisation) certification number. EBC Brakes is pleased to announce that after extensive multi-model testing at the MIRA (Motor Industries Research Association) test track located at Nuneaton, UK, that both EBC aramid organic pads and EBC Double-H sintered pads have been approved.
EBC Brakes do NOT recommend or endorse metal matrix, ceramic or composite discs and EBC brakes pads are NOT compatible with these and will cause DISC damage.
Ultra lightweight EBC Brakes X Series Floating front MC Rotors since their introduction, have become one if the worlds best selling lightest and best performing discs available for all modern sport bikes.
X and XC Floating MC rotors are the lightest rotors you can buy, they will eliminate all your vibration problems and last longer than conventional rotors using round button technology. Both designs further reduce weight by using only six drive buttons. This further reduces the unit weight by up to 300 grammes.
X rotors feature full circle, circular rotor blades
XC rotors feature a contoured lighter weight profile
Both Floating MC rotors feature mill hard stainless steel high friction rotor blades for maximum brake effect and are direct size for size replacements for OEM rotors. Both designs are also true fully floating units, offering more inside to outside float tolerance than any other rotor on the planet.
Do not confuse floating rotors with rotors that feature loose rotors blades or buttons. You should not be able to move either the buttons or rotor blades from side to side, if you can, it is highly likely that pad “Knock Back” will occur and you will end up with spongy brakes. Float means outside to inside heat expansion ability. That is what EBC X and XC rotors deliver and no other rotor can.
Always use new pads when replacing rotors, the use of old or worn pads can cause hot spots or glazing of the rotor and will promote brake fade and loss of brake.
Floating MC rotors feature EBC Brakes unique and patented S-Drive button system which features square sided rivets captured in square drive pockets on the rotor and hub which allow the outer rotor blade to expand and contract freely under the heat of braking without suffering rivet lock.
As the design of Motorcycles progressed over the last 10 years with machines getting lighter, more powerful and faster the demand on Motorcycle brakes has increased. Great technical forward movements such as 4 and 6 piston calipers and more recently the radial caliper have helped stop motorcycles faster but there has been, until now little progress made on brake rotors. There have been attempts to reduce weight on rotors, usually by drilling more holes in the rotor blade but always the OEM builders have used the boring “Round Style” rivet or drive button technology.
This outdated method of building rotors has now been consigned to the history books as EBC Brakes proudly announces the arrival of a new and patented design of drive button known as the SD System. SD stands for Square Drive which describes the button designs used in the new EBC X and XC rotors.

Full circle rear rotors part numbers are MD1004 or MD1004C for contour.
With contoured profile to reduce weight, rear versions of this new programme are made in HPSR steel and zinc plated to avoid corrosion. The latest EBC contour PLUS rotors are made with special stainless steel and new lightweight profile and feature the new scraper slot system which has proved to be so successful in preventing early life rotor damage when bedding in new brakes. The scraper slots remove any loose particles/debris as the pads bed in during early life after fitment and prevent rotor scoring.
EBC Brakes make the world’s largest range of brakes including replacement brake rotors for every make and model of scooter in a choice of two materials and profiles.
The EBC MD Series Scooter Discs are a stainless steel (INOX) exact size and shape replacement for original discs. To select these parts, look up the MD number in the catalogue listings and add suffix “D”.
If low price is your target then the MD series stainless scooter disc rotors will be a great choice, being made from a mill hard rolled steel, these rotors are machined to match the original units, mechanically de-stressed to avoid any chance of rotor distortion, surface finished for precise smoothness and then zinc coated to prevent corrosion or rusting in areas not contacted by the brake pad.
EBC MD Series Stainless Scooter Discs are a perfect matched pair to the EBC premium SFA HH Series Scooter Sintered Pads as the SFA range contains carbon which lays down a micro thin surface layer that actually prevents corrosion on the rotor surface.

EBC Brakes Vee-Rotors™ finally have the visual clout to match up to their superb quality and class leading performance.
EBC’s Special Edition Splatter Anodised custom hub finish is applied by hand using a secret anodising process, resulting in a coating that has the same level of resilience as other EBC rotor finishes yet with a radical and unique aesthetic. The hand applied nature of the coating also means no two hubs ever look the same.
Unlike painted or ‘hydro-dipped’ finishes that are merely aesthetic finishes, EBC’s Special Edition Splatter Anodised finish is a performance anodised coating that will withstand UV exposure and impacts from road debris without becoming damaged and discoloured. Additionally, because the anodising process results in colouration of the aluminium material itself, EBC’s finish is heat resistant and will withstand the temperatures encountered during hard riding. This ensures your new custom rotors continue to look great for years and years to come, particularly in motocross applications where the bike can be subjected to extreme riding conditions.
With several styles to choose from, each colour combination has been carefully selected to integrate with the motorcycle manufacturers own colour schemes. A list of motorcycle models for which the Special Edition Splatter Anodised finish is available can be seen below, along with photos of each of the unique finishes.

For Harley Davidson, Indian, Victory or ground up custom built bikes, EBC have them all. The all new EBC Brakes Black Chrome Rotor for Big Twins is a polished stainless and black chrome centre hub finish range of fully floating brake discs/rotors for all US built big twins and cruisers.
Made in the UK these quality fully floating brake rotors feature stainless steel centre hubs for maximum strength in either a polished stainless or black chrome over stainless finish. The EBC rotors use a patented SD or “square drive” button system explained in detail in the product review video on this page. The SD system guarantee a lifetime warp free/vibration free braking on your machine.
As with all EBC big twin rotors, all components and hardware are stainless steel but in addition to the high lustre polished stainless steel centre hub, EBC have applied a black chrome finish to improve the cosmetics.
The outer rotor ring or blade is from heat treated and tempered stainless steel with a diamond ground finish mounted onto the centre hub with EBC’s patented SD system™ square drive rivet hardware.
The SD system buttons which appear circular are flat sided and mount into square pockets in the centre hub and rotor blade allowing the rotor blade to expand and contract freely under heavy braking, totally eliminating brake vibration and rotor distortion.
Most big twins are built these days with cost saving solid front and rear brake rotors but the new EBC Brakes black chrome rotor for big twin units convert this old technology to a modern fully floating design that will reduce the chance of rotor warping and vibration. Front designs are five button to reduce weight but rear units are a beefy 10 or 12 button design for much heavier abuse and braking.
The EBC units fit directly onto your motorcycle in place of the standard OEM units and require no modification or extra hardware and install is a breeze. Remember to never use worn or old brake pads on new rotors which can cause hot spots and damage your new rotors. Allow 300-400 miles careful brake use unless in an emergency after fitting new rotors and pads.
It never ceases to amaze us here at EBC that solid or non floating rotors are still being fitted to modern motorcycles for cost savings reasons when there is such a ready technology with the polished stainless floating rotor for Big Twins at hand to replace them.
EBC produce a complete range of floating rotors for modern big twins and some tasty floating rotor conversions for solid units that will improve your brakes and offset the chance of vibration.
Rotors are all made in the UK using stainless steel usually with polished stainless steel centre hubs and are assembled using the unique EBC SD System square drive button technology. EBC front floating rotors feature 5 or 9 button designs whereas rear rotors can include up to 12 drive buttons to provide a sturdy looking and robust unit worthy of its heavy duty application.
Always use new pads when replacing rotors, the use of old or worn pads can cause hot spots or glazing of the rotor and will promote brake fade and loss of brake.
Lightweight and black anodised vintage discs have been added to EBC products range.
EBC have had many requests for a vintage fitment with modern technological advances such as billet aluminium construction, lightweight, less unsprung weight enabling better handling and stopping power. Perfect for the Café racer scene.
EBC Brakes world leaders in the Motorcycle and ATV brake business are pleased to now offer a new style of brake disc or rotor for Enduro riding.
Known as the EBC Brakes CE series the new rotors are UK made using high quality German mill rolled stainless steel, cast into ingots to EBC specification and precision rolled in Germany.
This unique steel gives a perfect combination of carbon and chrome making it a stainless unit but with heat treatable characteristics perfect for off road use. The chrome in the steel keeps off the rust, the carbon balance allows a perfect heat treatment that offers ductility with strength and avoids heat cracking common with many “Hard as Granite” brake rotors made with conventional steels.
No other brake company uses this grade of steel. It is specially cast and rolled for EBC.
Another new feature of the CE Series brake rotor is the lack of vent holes in the pad sweep area which drag mud and slurry between the pad and rotor and can accelerate rotor wear plus reduce brake effect. EBC Brakes™ plain brake shoes are made using high-pressure die cast aluminium platforms with bonded brake linings.
EBC plain motorcycle brake shoes are radius ground, edge trimmed and also feature lead in & lead out chamfers at lining ends and original equipment style brake shoe springs.
They are a perfect replacement for OE brake shoes as they are radius ground to fit exactly into the brake drum and are simple to fit using the OE style brake shoe springs included.
EBC WATER GROOVED series brake shoes are made using either high pressure die cast aluminium platforms for most two wheel machines and ATV’s or pressed steel platforms for most ATV’s with bonded brake linings.
All shoes are radius ground and edge trimmed to fit precisely in your brake drum and also feature lead in and lead out chamfers at lining ends and original equipment style brake shoe springs.
The multiple angled liner grooves are designed to channel away dirt, dust, water and debris from the braking area to improve braking and extend shoe and drum life.
In early years mechanics would “Saw” these grooves into liners which company do not recommend even though ZERO EBC brake shoes contain any dangerous fibres.
Complete Engine sets of stack height controlled friction plates featuring the EBC unique alloy particle impregnated clutch facings that prevent burn up or slippage.
Every CK kit is matched and measured to give you a perfect stack height. Never try to fit individual plates is the EBC recommendation.
Drive case OIL is extremely important and riders should never use ATF (Automatic transmission fluid) which has been tried in the past to reduce oil drag and gain half a horsepower.
It does reduce drag and it does give you a tiny HP gain, but it ruins your clutch in minutes. Always use the bike manufacturers oil and fill to the right level. Another not so clever trick used to gain a tiny power increase is to reduce the oil level in the drivecase.
Oils must cool the clutch as well as lubricate it, never cut corners here and never put additives of any sort in drivecase oil, which cause plates to stick and glaze, invalidating your warranty and ruining your clutch.
EBC clutch tools are available for most modern motorcycle, ATV clutch configurations and more are being added every month. The EBC tools can hold the basket or the plate hub to allow loosening or tightening of the retaining bolts minimising the risk of damage of the engine and clutch parts.
For years EBC clutches have been the preferred choice of motocross and ATV riders who want their off road clutches to last and work.
CKF is the name of the new EBC carbon fiber impregnated motocross & ATV clutches and they are built tough to last longer, grip better, feel better and drive better than stock cork based units.
PLUS the high heat ability of these CKF Carbon Fiber clutch plates handles much higher stresses and temperatures encountered in racing, yet feel gentle and smooth in everyday riding.
One day, all Motocross bikes and ATV will be built using a clutch like this, but for now the only way to get the best clutch in the game is to step up to an EBC CKF plate set, or go the whole hog and invest in the DRCF clutch kits which are sold as an assembly with a stack height measured to precisely reset your bike to the original sizing.
Never use automatic transmission fluid. EBC strongly recommend that this clutch is fitted by a mechanic who is professionally trained. Due to the heat fatigue of old springs company also recommend that you fit new clutch springs at the same time that you change your clutch plates.
EBC manufacture a range of clutch spring sets. Before riding your motorcycle please ensure you are comfortable with the new lever force and can easily disengage the clutch with minimal hand pressure. Have an experienced rider test the machine.
The Ultimate clutch rebuild for your ATV and Moto Cross machine …
Here’s why? Stack height is the all important factor when renewing a clutch and riders are always best to buy a complete kit than separate single plates as sold by bike manufacturers.
Replacing just the “Apparently” worn plate or plates may not even get close to rebuilding your clutch to its original stack height and all you get is clutch slip and the job has to be done again. Compare that to the guaranteed results of the EBC DRC Clutch Kit.
Features and benefits of these Clutch Kits:
Complete stack height controlled set of friction plates using …
EBC unique alloy article impregnated clutch facings that wear longer and resists burning plus …
Pin planished steel driven plates that spread the oil around the clutch better and prevent more clutch burn-up than ever before!
10-15% uprated heavy duty clutch springs to clamp those plates together firm and strong for the life of your clutch.
New EBC Clutch tools are available for most modern motorcycle and ATV clutch configurations and more are being added every month. The EBC tools can hold the basket or the plate hub to allow loosening or tightening of the retaining bolts minimising the risk of damage of the engine and clutch parts.
Also available is the EBC DRCF Carbon Fiber Clutch kit which raises the bar on performance.
Built for the tougher new world of four stroke Motorcycles the DRCF kit swaps the stock type cork friction plates for a new set of severe duty carbon fiber lined friction plates for better heat and wear abilities …
But the new DRCF kits not only work well on strokers, they work great on ATV and two stroke motocross machines also.
EBC Brakes produces the largest range of clutches in the world and makes clutch rebuild kits for every ATV and Motorcycle on the planet.
The ultimate moto-x and ATV heavy duty clutch kit designed for race use.
These new kits feature carbon fibre lined clutch plates plus a full set of steel plates and heavy duty springs.
These kits are ideal for the higher torque generated in modern four stoke engines but are equally useful as a clutch upgrade in two stroke motorcycles.
An aramid paper lined plate set complete with heavy duty clutch springs.
An aramid paper lined plate set complete with heavy duty clutch springs (for bikes fitted with diaphragm type springs EBC can now supply a heavy duty spring kit), the SRC kit is ideal for heavy sport bikes, faster riders and production based race use.
Advantages of the SRC aramid series are longer life, higher heat resistance, although this clutch has a more aggressive/faster take up than the CK cork series.
The new SRK series includes a full engine set of aramid lined friction plates, heavy duty clutch springs of either the coil spring or diaphragm type, together with a full engine set of steel separator plates.
With ever increasing horsepowers of motorcycle engines, clutches are being subjected to ever increasing stresses. Many motorcycles are tuned to a higher horsepower after production further increasing the demands on clutches. EBC Brakes has been involved with the clutch market for over 20 years with its famous DRC series, SRC series and CK series clutches and in 2009 launched a new range known as SRK, the street racer clutch kit.
Race & Sport SRK Series
As a world first, EBC Brakes has engineered its own range of increased pressure heavy duty diaphragm clutch springs to replace tired or worn original units and these are included free of charge in the SRK kit.
New SRK complete kits include aramid fiber lined friction plates, steel separator plates and springs to provide a street-going kit for high performance street and road race use much similar to the DRC program for off road. Some of the kits will now feature new diaphragm springs as used in many larger new bikes to provide a complete clutch rebuild kit for every sportbike possible.
New EBC Clutch tools are available for most modern motorcycle and ARV clutch configurations and more are being added every month. The EBC tools can hold the basket or the plate hub to allow loosening or tightening of the retaining bolts minimising the risk of damage of the engine and clutch parts.
Complete engine sets of heat treated and tempered steel coil springs or diaphragm springs giving 10-15% more clamp pressure than standard.
These are spiral wound springs using four to eight pieces per set, made from heat treated high carbon steel and come in various shapes and sizes, delivering differing spring tensions depending on the size of the bike and the horsepower of your engine. It is important to note that you cannot change the basic shape of these springs to gain any performance advantage but what you CAN do is buy an EBC Brakes CSK kit which has slightly thicker winding material and delivers 10 – 15% more clamp pressure.
This can help reduce clutch slip or fast clutch wear on your machine.
All springs get tired and should be replaced at every engine rebuild or clutch overhaul.
These are dish shaped flat steel pressure rings and there are normally only one or two in a bikes engine. You should never add MORE springs on a diaphragm spring set up. If you do wish to upgrade the clamp load and your bike is fitted with a diaphragm spring clutch kit, buy an EBC Brakes spring kit, all of which are built with 10 -15% more clamp pressure than stock.
This can again reduce clutch slip and premature clutch wear.
When replacing your clutch on any ATV you have two options
Made in the UK by EBC Brakes, these laser cut clutch tools make clutch removal, loosening of the drive shaft bolts and re-tightening a breeze, without any fear of damage to your expensive clutch basket.
The tools can even be extended to create more leverage if required with any simple workshop tool, or simple tube but the tools themselves are an essential and very low cost item for clutch replacement. Do not use tyre levers or screwdrivers for this job as expensive damage can result.
EBC strongly recommends the use of these tools for all clutch work as compared to the high prices of manufacturers tools these are very much value for money and a worthwhile buy.
EBC produce a clutch tool for almost every clutch plate design known.
Features and benefits of these Brake Lines:
100% British made product
Every individual line pressure tested after assembly
Improves brake feel and modulation
UK Factory built (not “workshop made” from components)
Lifetime guarantee against faults, defects and failures
Identical routing as originals lines
EBC Brakes’ range of UK manufactured high performance braided steel brake lines are 100% pressure tested, guaranteed to be leak free and give a firmer, more responsive feel compared to rubber lines.
All of EBC brake lines not only meet company own stringent standards but they are also approved by TÜV, DOT, ADR and ISO.
All of EBC brake line kits are a direct replacement of the original manufacturers lines therefore they fit first time, every time – no need for adjusting angles or using universal fittings that do not fit.
EBC sub-contracts the blending of its brake fluids to a UK based company who specialise in the OE supply of quality brake fluids and are considered a suitable quality partner.
EBC offers five brake fluid options for the market separated into two families, both of which are very different in their chemistry – glycol fluids and silicone fluids.
Most modern cars and motorcycles use a glycol fluid in their system. Care should be taken to read your owners manual before buying or mixing brake fluids; adding the wrong fluid to your vehicle brake system can cause many problems and even degrade the seals in your brake hydraulics. The specification and toxicity info (COSHH and OSHHA) for EBC brake fluids can be found by clicking on the Material Data Safety Sheets below.
EBC BF307+ High Performance Super DOT 4 Brake Fluid has been specially formulated to provide outstanding performance for braking systems routinely operated at extreme temperatures making this fluid ideal for fast street use, track days and racing. Glycol fluids have a hygroscopic characteristic – this means that they attract and absorb water. Over the years the fluid in your vehicle’s braking system will degrade by the absorption of water. It is not uncommon to find glycol fluids containing up to 13 or 14% water which corrodes internal steel parts in your brake system and will promote early brake fade under heavy brake use. For this reason, glycol fluids should be used only from a sealed container. Once opened, the container will start the degradation process immediately.
For this reason EBC Brakes do not sell large containers of brake fluid which have a definite shelf life and prefer to sell only in smaller bottles so that the fluids can remain sealed until used thus minimising waste.
Glycol fluid is highly corrosive and contact with paintwork by fingers contaminated with brake fluids can cause severe paint damage. Ensuring that you do not touch paintwork and cleaning hands is essential when working with glycol.
Silicone fluids are commonly classed as DOT 5 and MUST NOT be mixed with glycol fluids. Many US-built custom big twin motorcycles have brake systems that are designed for use with silicone brake fluid. Silicone is expensive but has the advantage that it is not hygroscopic i.e. it does not degrade by absorbing water and it does not damage paintwork.
Ensure that you choose the right brake fluid for your vehicle by always referring to the owner’s manual.
A highly refined DOT 4 glycol fluid that has less tendency to cause vapour lock. Remember that once you open this container it will start to degrade. After use, remember to seal your vehicle’s brake system and discard the remainder of the bottle. MUST NOT be mixed with DOT 5 silicone fluids.
This is a general purpose glycol fluid with a dry boiling point of 270°C (518°F) and a minimum wet boiling point of 170°C (338°F). Suitable for use in most modern motorcycle and automotive brake systems. MUST NOT be mixed with DOT 5 silicone fluids.
For track or race use, choose BF307+ racing brake fluid.
DOT 4LV low viscosity brake fluid can be mixed with other glycol brake fluids of the same base. Recommended for use in all cars, commercial vehicles and motorcycles which require a DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid.
Unlike glycol fluids, silicone will not damage paintwork is used as standard in some high quality US-built big twin motorcycles. Always check your vehicle owner’s manual and do not mix this fluid with glycol fluids to prevent damage to hydraulic seals and the entire brake system.
DOT 5.1 high performance brake fluid has a higher boiling point than DOT 3 and DOT 4 fluids which makes it suitable for modern high performance vehicles. Can be mixed with other glycol fluids of the same base.

Made in the USA, S&B Custom Air Filters enjoy a unique filter element called Reemay made by Dupont which being man-made product features more evenly dispersed and finer filtration holes for improved filtration and constant airflow.
Filters can be run DRY or oiled but experience shows that running these filters DRY produces most consistent performance as when oiled, the filter gradually dries out over a period of use and the carburetion or fuel mixture strength may vary. If running filters DRY always protect the outside filter on your bikes from direct rainfall to avoid one filter becoming soaked when bike is PARKED . This will affect carburetion and may make the bike difficult to start until the filter dries out.
The filters are end sealed with a high lustre chrome end cap. Filters come in a range of size and filter volumes to handle all needs on modern street motorcycles and custom applications.
The rule is to seek out the diameter onto which the filter will fit and then get the largest filter possible into the allowable space.
After removing a standard airbox and fitting custom filters re-tuning of the jet size and pilot jet screw setting may need to be altered, this should be done by plug colour testing and using precision BRASS (not plastic) mainjets as available from company affiliate Company A-BAX engineering,
