Excelsior-Henderson Motorcycle Women's
The Excelsior-Henderson Motorcycle Company was founded in the early 1990s in Burnsville, Minnesota. Inspired by the design of old bikes such as the Henderson DeluXe Four, Daniel Hanlon and a group of enthusiasts made a valiant attempt to revive an American motorcycle brand. In 1998, they opened the factory in Belle Plaine capable of manufacturing 10,000 motorcycles per year. The aim was quite ambitious – to build a proprietary OEM motorbike, a heavy and powerful cruiser. And they did it, having invested a hundred million dollars approximately. It was the Super X model, and the experts considered it as one of the fastest in its class.
In fact, the Super X was the only model by this company, and just about 2,000 units of various colors and configurations were built in 1998 – 1999. Afterwards, the production was stopped due to some problems with financing, and the company was reorganized. However, the bike's introduction was a real event of that time. It was a completely new motorcycle featuring many styling cues from the bikes of the 1920s and 1930s and having a proprietary engine, which was not a rip-off clone or even similar version of the motors made by Harley Davidson or other reputable manufacturers. The Super X is powered by an X-Twin fuel-injected 85-cubic-inch engine with dual overhead cams, which is mated to a five-speed transmission having a hydraulic clutch. Although the bike was not lightweight (647 pounds), it's felt powerful and lighter than it is in fact. The flow of torque is smooth, without sharp peaks and valleys, and handling is good. There is some engine vibration on a neutral speed, but there is a nice spot between 2,500 and 3,200 rpm when vibration virtually disappears.
Although about two decades have passed since the last Super X rolled off the assembly line in Minnesota, many owners like this bike and try to keep it in good condition.
