Most modern motorcycles are started by simply pressing a button – it's easy, quick, and convenient. However, older models with a kickstarter are still widely spread. Some riders are even convinced that the kick pedal is better than electrics, and there are some disputes between them and those who prefer a button. In fact, all of them have a reason, as both of these setups have their pros and cons, although the pedal is considered outdated. Some of the main arguments in favor of a kickstarter are its simplicity and high reliability.

These advantages are especially crucial in dirt bikes. The environment they typically work in can be rather harmful to their complex electric starting systems with a battery and cables, especially in poor weather conditions. Another benefit of a kickstarter is that it needs less maintenance than the electric starting mechanism. However, kickstarter bikes have a huge disadvantage – they can be really hard to get started, making a rider kick the pedal several times with no result. In different models, this may occur when the motorcycle is cold or warmed up.

Arguably, it's best to have a bike supporting both ways of cranking the motor, with the help of electrics or via the pedal if needed. Meanwhile, even a reliable kick starting mechanism may require attention. Its configuration differs in various bikes, and depending on the model, this system may start jamming, slipping, etc. Quite often, the real reason for hard starting lies in the malfunctioning ignition, fuel supply, or even in wrong valve timing. Whichever setup you own, it's recommended to keep the motor in good condition in order to avoid possible problems. In our online store, you will find a large assortment of kickstart pedals, shafts, bushings, arms, seals, and various hardware.
