Dr. Chris Leatt, the founder of the company, is a motorcycle rider, physician, and a former medical officer for three FIM MX South African Motorcycle Grand Prixs. He set about developing the prototype of the neck brace after having witnessed the death of his fellow rider from neck injury. The neck brace that he constructed reduced the likelihood of collarbone injury. It works by transmitting the force of an impact to the helmet instead of the rider’s neck. His invention appeared in 2004 and was documented by BMW in 2006; many more awards followed in subsequent years. In 2008, the world-famous Leatt Lab was opened, which is the company’s research & development center and fully-equipped testing laboratory.

Leatt helmets utilize revolutionary 360 Degree Turbine Technology that reduces head impact at concussion level and prevents much of the rotational force from going to the neck and head.
