Back in the early 1970’s Bob LePera had a dream... Bob’s career started back when he was 12 years old in his Mom and Dad’s family owned leather goods shop. As a young teen he was already making exotic watch bands, belts, and wallets. His artistry was far beyond his years.
In high school, at the ripe old age of 16, Bob’s passion turned to cars. Denied by his parent’s to go “over the border” for the interior in his personal hot rod (a super charged Studebaker Lark), he decided to take on the job himself. With the skills learned at his parent’s shop and his natural talents, he single handedly transformed the interior of his beloved Lark into what can best be described as the envy of all of his Greaser buddies and their “Babes” alike! After showing off his car around school and local hang outs the word spread fast. Within a couple of weeks customers lined his parent’s driveway to get a “Bob LePera” custom interior.
From there, his talent landed him a full time job working alongside Tony Nancy (world famous drag racer/upholsterer from the 1960’s-70’s) specializing in dragsters, show and exotic cars. After rubbing elbows and upholstering cars for some of the biggest names in Drag Racing and Hollywood, Bob was itching to get out on his own. The ’70’s approached and the Chopper scene took off. Little by little Bob began doing an unbelievable amount of custom motorcycle seats. For Bob, the motorcycle and his talents were a match made in heaven. For the first time, his work was on display for everyone to see. His love for anything with wheels was only fuel for the fire. In 1972, Bob made up his mind that he was going to start a company that would dedicate itself to the superior design, quality and craftsmanship of custom motorcycle seats. That year, 1972, Bob’s dream became a reality and LePera Enterprises was born.
It’s been 40 years since Bob started the company. All of his blood, sweat and tears were not in vain. For today, LePera is one of the most respected names in the industry. Sadly, Bob Sr. passed away in 2008, but his memory and incredible work ethic lives on in all of us. Everything Bob believed in and worked so hard for is what drives us everyday to be the best we can be and make custom seats we are proud to put our name on. His incredible spirit and passion will always be seen through every seat that passes through our doors.
For the past 27 years LePera has been a family affair. Bob Jr. is head seat designer, runs production and advertising. Bob’s daughter, Christine, directs the sales force and manages the Dealer and Distributor network.
Through Bob Jr., Christine and the entire LePera team, Bob’s legacy and dreams live on.
Keeping with our 40+ year tradition, we are one of the only seat companies still using steel exclusively for all of our seat bases. Our steel bases have helped build our reputation and year after year, have set us apart from the rest. In the last four years, there have been many changes made to Softails, Sportsters and Dynas. We've made all of the necessary modifications for the proper fit, in fact, in all three models we've made completely new steel-forming dies.
Our perfected forming process has created our company's cleanest and tightest fitting base plates ever. For us, there is simply nothing like the secure feeling you get from steel. All of our brackets are securely welded or bolted with weld nuts to each plate - something not possible with fiberglass or plastic. After checking out our seats, you'll never look at another base plate the same way again.
We only use the highest quality materials in each and every one of our seats. Looking through our catalog you will see the pride and dedication we take in combining all of the features below, into the finest custom seats money can buy.
Our craftsmanship, as well as cutting edge design, have put us at the forefront of the custom Harley seat world. Focusing on Harleys exclusively has enabled us to create the perfect relationship between seat and motorcycle. We have crafted a defining balance between form and function. Every seat we make has its own unique style that transforms the personality of your bike. Our most popular seats are based on what we call "pure form." These seats rely solely on a shape so pure, they singlehandedly create the look and flow of the motorcycle. The Silhouette, King Cobra and Bare Bones are three such designs. Their simplistic lines are what make them the most stylish seats available today. Even our touring based seats are an exercise in style, form and function. Both the Maverick and the new Sorrento are intentionally designed to compliment, not overpower the lines of the bike. Their relative low profile and non-confining contours contrast the traditional, bulky "road couches" available elsewhere. Here at LePera, we're always taking seat design to the next level. That's what has built our reputation as a trendsetter ... constantly pushing the limits of what a seat can be.
