Although most dirt bikes have much in common, this large category of motorcycles includes several types whose performance is quite different. There are motocross and trail dirt bikes, along with enduro motorcycles, and all of them are equipped with the engine having one or two cylinders of different displacement. Actually, the quantity of cylinders and engine settings belong to those factors that influence not only power but also off-road capability and traction. While the number of cylinders in a bike remains the same, the motor can be adjusted to get certain benefits.
If the engine features electronic fuel injection, it usually runs smoother, creates fewer emissions, and provides more flexibility in terms of tuning. With the help of certain aftermarket equipment, you could get more torque at high revs, spread torque more evenly within the RPM range, improve throttle response, correct rough stock settings made with economy in mind, or adapt your engine to the new, more advanced exhaust or air intake system. Such equipment includes motocross and dirt bike performance chips and programmers, aftermarket fuel controllers, special tuning kits that intercept and alter the signals coming from the ECU, and so on.
Many of them are available in our online store, and they are developed by renowned companies having serious practical experience in what they do. In particular, some products enable you to load special racing fuel maps into your engine controller and alter them manually if needed. Others allow you to create your own maps following the targeted air-to-fuel ratio (AFR) in each operating mode; this ratio is measured by a wideband oxygen sensor in real time and viewed on a special AFR gauge.
