Motor oil can be considered the lifeblood of an internal combustion engine that circulates inside the lubrication system to reduce friction. It forms a thin film and prevents direct metal-to-metal contact between moving parts while also partially cooling them to extend the service life of the whole assembly. When you pour fresh oil into your motorcycle’s engine, it flows and accumulates in the oil pan, which is also called “sump.” The majority of modern bikes utilize wet sumps or oil tanks beneath the engine. Once the engine starts, the pump begins to collect lubricant from the pan and pushes it into the engine.

Oil is pumped into the motor through numerous narrow passages to provide lubrication while flowing through openings onto the camshaft and crankshaft lobes and bearings, valve stems, pushrods, piston pins, and piston rings to help form a firm seal for better compression rates. Also, motor oils feature detergent properties needed to keep the engine, and especially gearbox and wet clutch assemblies clean from varnish and deposits. All dirt and debris can be effectively extracted from the system by the oil filter. The transmission and clutch pack produce a lot of heat due to compression between the gear teeth and friction between the clutch plates. Oil helps to keep the temperature in check.

To extend oil change intervals and improve its lubricating and cleaning properties, some motorcycle models use oil coolers. The device is engineered in the form of a radiator that helps dissipate excessive heat into the atmosphere. If compared to the automotive motor oil, its motorcycle counterpart is subject to much greater stress caused by higher engine RPMs, higher operating temperatures, and potential problems in the motor, transmission, and clutch assemblies. Automotive motor oil lubricates only the engine. Besides, the capacity of a motorcycle’s lubrication system is limited due to a smaller sump. In wet clutch systems, the lubricant must have well-balanced slip and grip properties.

Wet sump motorcycle engines feature removable pans underneath their crankcases. On the digital shelves of our store, you can find an assortment of aftermarket motorcycle oil pans, dipsticks, and drain plugs by some of the most trustworthy brands in the industry. Some models of our oil pans feature fins designed to maximize their oil cooling capabilities. These parts are usually manufactured from cast or billet aluminum and feature strategically placed baffles for channeling hot lubricant from the engine to the rear part of the pan thus creating circulation for better cooling. You can choose from a variety of finishes including matte silver, polished, or black powder coating.

The cooler your oil, the longer your engine can run without problems. On average, aftermarket oil pans can make your motor oil up to 15 degrees cooler. The drop in southern states may reach 30 degrees in the summer. Many of the oil tank dipsticks offered in our store feature analog or digital gauges so that they can help you monitor not only your oil level but also its temperature. Some of the most popular models feature LCD screens with backlighting and overheat warning function. Also, here you can find a wide variety of filler caps and drain bolts with magnetic tips for collecting fine metal shavings.
