If you stripped your motorcycle down to the tiniest part, you would be surprised at how many pieces it really includes. You don't think about them much as long as they work, but the bad news is that none of them will last forever. Soon or late, they will require replacing, yet no motorcycle maker will keep replacement parts available for ages. The good news, however, is that there are various aftermarket manufacturers allowing riders to enjoy even vintage and classic models for an indefinitely long time. SMP (short for Standard Motorcycle Products) is one of these companies.
Established over a hundred years ago, it's one of the leading manufacturers and distributors of replacement parts, with production facilities certified according to ISO and IATF requirements. Mainly specializing in American motorcycles by Harley-Davidson, Buell, and Indian, the company offers a large assortment of products for many systems present in both modern and classic bikes including the ignition, electrical system, fuel delivery, and brakes. The company's production capabilities allow for conducting rigorous testing and environmental analysis such as resistance to thermal cycling, salt spray, vibration, etc., which are aimed at increasing lifespan and improving reliability.
Electrical components such as relays, sensors, and switches are some of the most popular products by the brand. Even genuine parts have their own weaknesses, and SMP tries to reveal and fix them. For instance, the SMP brake light switch for some H-D models features some improvements such as the O-ring and altered housing for extra radial sealing, yet it perfectly suits the stock equipment.
