Zippo is one of the most significant and influential American icons with a long heritage that dates back to 1932. To this date, the company has produced more than 500 million lighters. Many of its patented designs became prized collectibles. Zippo backs its lighters by the renowned lifetime warranty that states the following: either the lighter works or Zippo fixes it free. The company also provides a selection of equipment for outdoor activities, including multi-tools, lanterns, replacement blades, and more.
The title “Zippo” was composed by George G. Blaisdell, the company’s founder, who liked how the word “zipper” sounded. Mr. Blaisdell ventured to redesign the clumsy lighter used by his friend. He aimed to make a new lighter that is scratch-resistant, and more user-friendly, efficient, and enduring. For more than 85 years, nobody has ever paid a penny to repair a Zippo lighter because of its bad condition or wear. This pocket lighter has rooted itself in American culture and become synonymous with dependability and durability.
During its development, Zippo expanded its inventory. For instance, in 1993 it started offering the limited-edition of hand-made knives. At the beginning of the 20th century, the company released the first multi-function refillable lighter. Two years later Zippo received registration of trademark for its lighter shape. In 2010 it presented its hand-warmer featuring the all-metal construction and providing heat longer than any competitive product. 2012 was the landmark year for Zippo. The company celebrated the 80th anniversary and its production output reached a record mark of 500 million lighters. Today many companies all over the world keep using Zippo lighters to promote and advertise. That is why Zippo lighters are so highly sought after by both common buyers and collectors.
