Modern motorcycles use chains and sprockets, belts and pulleys, or gear shafts as the drivetrain. Chain drives are the most efficient, but they are noisy and require frequent maintenance. On the upside, repair jobs are easy, and replacement parts are inexpensive. Belt drives are silent and don’t require much maintenance, but broken belts are relatively hard to install. Gear shaft drives are virtually indestructible, but they are rather expensive.
