Adventure and touring bikes are designed for long trips on paved roads or moderate off-road routes. They are required to be robust and reliable, with performance optimized for endurance rather than for high top speed. The brake system follows the same criteria with the focus on effectiveness in the long run. ADV and touring motorcycles can be equipped with both disc or drum brakes and several upgrades can improve their stopping power and braking feel. While the rotors, pads, and calipers are among the most popular upgrades to make, many tend to overlook the lines and hoses. However, stronger lines reduce or eliminate expansion when the brakes are engaged, making the braking feel crisper and more confident.
Brake lines have a multi-layer construction with an inner core protected by one or more external layers. Cracking and excessive porosity represent the main dangers to the lines and hoses as they pave the way to leakage of the fluid or the formation of vapor locks inside the lines.
