Touring motorcycles are designed to offer comfort over long distances, while adventure bikes can also tackle moderate off-roading. Of course, to fully enjoy the potential of your motorcycle, you need to keep it in top shape, starting from its very core - the engine. As every internal combustion engine requires fuel and oxygen to perform, the air intake system is of crucial importance. It is responsible for delivering the right amount of air into the engine for the combustion process to go smoothly. The air intake tract must be properly sealed in order to keep the air-fuel mixture balanced.
The most common manifold-related problem is an intake leak. The manifold is subjected to huge temperatures; at the mouth of the intake, it is often higher than 240 degrees, which causes the seals, o-rings, and the rubber manifold itself to crack. Intake leaks can lead to abnormal functioning of the engine due to a lean condition. The fuel-air mixture diluted with oxygen causes an erratic idle and generates more heat during combustion, leading to engine overheating in the worst case scenario.
