In 1986, Bruce Armstrong convinced his wife that riding an XL500 Honda from Seattle to Alaska would be a good idea. He used Chase Harper USA ET4000 saddlebags, a 1501 Eurosport tank bag and a number plate bag, but still found himself needing a place to stow tent, sleeping bag and sleeping mats. John Chase made a custom tail trunk bag that exactly accommodated these items. Upon returning (and his wife saying that she was never going touring on a d/p bike again), he found himself using his now-scruffy Alaska bag on a wide variety of motorcycles, sometimes re-packed with rain gear, his Aerostitch suit or empty-"just in case". Now well tested, Chase Harper USA re-creating his original Alaska Bag in 2001 as the Chase Harper USA B'Alaska Bag.
