Motocross/Dirt Bike Engine Vents

A crankcase is a chamber filled with oil. Because oil must stay inside whereas moisture and dust must stay outside the engine, this chamber is sealed. And that can be a problem because when the piston moves in the chamber, it creates undesirable pressure in the crankcase, which is fraught with energy losses, pushing seals out, and oil leaks. Breathers and vents allow for keeping this pressure within acceptable values. While a breather is essentially just a tube with an air filter that enables the air to enter the crankcase when the piston moves up, the vent is a bit more elaborate.

The problem with letting the gases out of the crankcase is that they are rather toxic and also contain oil. Just releasing such a cocktail every time the pressure needs to be stabilized means to cause quite a lot of harm to Mother Nature and your health. That’s why the vent has a hose that connects it to the cylinder head thus allowing for releasing these hydrocarbons back into the cylinders where they get combusted. Maintaining your motocross bike’s vent and breather in operating condition is therefore crucial. Do it easier with our high-quality replacement components.
