Since their introduction in the second decade of the twentieth century, scooters have been the go-to choice for short trips in the urban environment. Reed valves allow the air-fuel mixture to move in just one direction from the carburetor to the crankcase when the up-stroke of the piston creates a vacuum in the crankcase. During the down-stroke, the valve closes, forcing the mixture into the cylinder for combustion and not letting it go back to the intake.
