In order for many systems on your trike to function reliably, including ABS and digital instrumentation, its computer needs to acquire and analyze plenty of data. Wheel speed sensors determine wheel rotation and supply this info to the ECU or other modules as either digital or analog signal. Present-day units are also capable of detecting the rims’ direction of rotation. The component which controls the ABS system uses the information to find out whether the individual rims are locked whenever the trike is braking in an emergency, in order to take countervailing measures, thus stabilizing the motorcycle.
