If the engine can be called the heart of your 3-wheeler only figuratively, the oil pump is the heart of the engine pretty literally. Its job is to move the life-giving liquid through the motor whose service life comes to an end no more than in a couple of minutes after the pump stops doing what it’s supposed to. The good news is that the devices as important as these ones are made super reliable. The engineers who designed your bike chose a gear pump setup which is capable of maintaining sufficient oil pressure while being a simple and dependable mechanism.
The oil pump in your motorcycle’s engine consists of two gears and specially shaped casing. Add a few seals, and that’s pretty much it. Driven by the crankshaft, this part almost cannot fail. The seals around the pump, however, are a different story. These lose their elasticity over time, eventually starting to let oil out. The gears themselves are susceptible to wear, traditionally happening as a result of a clogged oil filter and undue oil change intervals.
