Motorcycle Clip-Ons

Clip-on handlebars became very popular with sport bike owners, especially those who occasionally visit a race track. They come in two separate pieces that can be attached directly to the fork tubes with clamps. It is much easier to adjust, repair, or replace one clip-on handle instead of dealing with traditional-style one-piece handlebars after a crash. Depending on the sitting position that you prefer, you may attach your clip-ons over or under the triple clamp. To increase your comfort during long-distance trips and improve handling, you can install handlebars with raisers. They offer a more comfortable hand position while you are sitting on your motorcycle.

At first glance, the difference between your stock handlebars and clip-ons may seem insignificant, but when you spend a lot of time on the road, sometimes just a little change in your hand position can make you feel much more comfortable. It reduces the rider’s fatigue and helps you concentrate on driving thus making your journey safer. Some models come with removable handlebars. In case of an accident, you can simply replace a damaged handle by unscrewing two bolts on the clamp instead of removing the whole clip-on. Besides straight clip-ons, you can choose their angled counterparts if you feel that the offered hand position is more comfortable for you. If you prefer a racing-style riding position, attach your clip-on bars lower on the fork legs. Please note that while such a tucked-in posture improves aerodynamics at high speeds, it may cause strain in your back and shoulders when you slow down and there is no oncoming high-speed airflow to hold your body.

Some of our clip-ons come with pre-drilled location holes to hold switch assemblies, clutch lever, and front brake master cylinder firmly in place. If you want better adjustability, choose bars with no provided mounting points for controls or simply grind location pins on your switches, lever, and brake cylinder with a file. In case you decide to use bar raisers, you may need to replace your stock brake and clutch lines as well as most of the wires. Sometimes, the brake line extension can resolve the problem, so it often comes included in a clip-on package. If you don’t want to take apart the top yoke to fit new bars, choose clip-ons with hinged clamps.

Before starting the disassembly, take a minute to photograph all of the connections on factory-installed handlebars of your motorcycle. You need to know exactly which wire goes where to avoid mistakes during installation. To install new clip-ons with solid clamps, you will have to remove the top yoke first. Undo the nut on top of the steering head shaft. The yoke can be clamped to fork legs as well. Also, stock clip-ons might be bolted to the yoke to prevent their rotation in case of a crash. Release pinch bolts on your old bars and slide them up. Put on your new clip-ons and reassemble everything in reverse order. When you’re done, check if your new bars are symmetrical.
