Your touring or adventure bike offers reliable performance and power that you need for exploring new places thanks in part to the fuel and air its engine runs on. Both of these agents play an important part in internal combustion. For your bike’s motor to work as designed, air and gasoline should not only be clean but also mix in proper proportions. Air is used as oxidizer, mixed with gasoline at 14:1 ratio, so that the latter would ignite and combust. A properly working air intake tract delivers the right amount of oxygen to the combustion chambers. However, if there’s any malfunction that impedes the air flow or quality, it needs to be addressed as soon as possible as it can cause a range of problems from poor overall performance to engine damage.
An air filter cleans the incoming flow from different particles and debris, so that the combustion chambers, fuel injectors, or the carb wouldn’t get fouled.
