A cylinder is a combustion chamber in any given piston engine. A sealed chamber, wherein the piston moves up and down (right and left for boxer engines), the cylinder is susceptible to the release of huge amounts of heat. Because of that, it has to be continuously cooled – via the circulating coolant or air flow. The second way of cooling is more widespread in the world of motorcycles; to make sure the outer surfaces release enough heat at any given time, the cylinders are left uncovered and have a ribbed design.
When it comes to power boost, an increased bore is a sure way to extract extra horsepower out of the bike’s engine. A bigger bore means that more fuel and air enter the chambers every time the intake stroke happens. It, in turn, means more torque and horses moving your motorcycle. And this, finally, gives you that unforgettable feel of rampant power you must be loving your two-wheeler for.
