The history of modern dual-sport motorcycles started in the 1970s when many manufacturers designed several two-wheelers able to cope with the paved roads and off-road routes successfully. Since then, the category has been enjoying increasing popularity, due to its extreme versatility and ability of the makers to follow the design trends of the market. Some dual-sport bikes, especially those equipped with large engines, feature dry-sump systems to lubricate the motor. While the lubricant accumulates in the crankcase in a conventional wet-sump system, in a dry-sump design, the lubricant is stored in an oil tank separated from the engine.

The use of an oil tank brings several design advantages to motorcycles. For instance, it ensures better oil cooling. Also, it allows designers to locate the tank conveniently to improve handling and stability, or to install a larger motor. The external position of the tank, however, exposes it to various hazards: impacts and scratches can damage the tank and even start the process of corrosion, especially in older models. If you need to replace the oil tank of your dual-sport bike, visit our online store offering a large selection of top-notch products including tanks, caps, drain plugs, and related accessories.
