Most of the modern motorcycles use numerous sensors whose inputs are crucial for optimal engine operation. Some of them such as oil pressure and engine temperature sensors can even be found in old carbureted bikes and just let the rider know when something goes wrong by switching the corresponding light indicator or in some other way. Other sensors are more complex and are often based on electronics. But over the years, any of them may become the source of issues such as oil leaks, chaotically blinking indicators, or diminished performance.
In particular, fuel injection and electronic ignition systems imply the use of several sensors whose operation is not always ideal. Depending on the engine’s design, your bike can be equipped with sensors detecting the current crank position, air pressure and temperature in the intake, throttle position, oxygen content in the exhaust gas, etc. Real-time data received from these sensors enable the engine control module to immediately adjust fuel supply or ignition timing in accordance with current RPM, air temperature, and engine load.
For the motor to run well, all of its sensors and switches have to be in good working condition. Naturally, all these parts have to be very accurate and strong enough to stand up to vibrations, heat, temperature extremes, corrosion, and aggressive chemicals, depending on their application. Also, their electrical connectors have to be sealed and protected from dust and moisture. However, over time, some sensors get clogged with dirt or soot, others lose contact, and still others start to malfunction for unknown reasons. Given all these factors, it’s worth using only quality products made by trustworthy companies. We’ve gathered them in our store so you can shop with confidence!
