In both automotive and motorcycle worlds, the oil system can be divided into two types – wet- and dry-sump. Although the former is much more widespread in cars and bikes thanks to its simplicity, the latter has its own serious benefits. For instance, it allowed Harley-Davidson to reduce the powerplant's height at the expense of a shallower crankcase, which is not used as the sump for storing oil anymore. The pumped recirculating oil system enabled the engineers at H-D to lower the center of gravity and increase the piston stroke without sacrificing convenience and aesthetics.

Indeed, this ingenious and simple solution provides more stable and effective lubrication than a wet-sump system. For its operation, it needs an oil pump, lines, and an oil tank that is typically located under the seat. Designed for storing two or three quarts of oil, the tank also has several inlets and outlets for feed and return oil lines, ventilation, and filling the tank itself. Also, aftermarket tanks are often used for customization purposes and tuning; many choppers and bobbers have custom chrome tanks.

On our virtual shelves, you will find plenty of oil tanks available in different designs – round, wrap-around, custom, etc. Most of them come with all of the necessary fittings and mounts allowing you to easily install them and reliably connect to the system. Also, such fittings and many other related parts are sold individually. We carry dipsticks with built-in temperature gauges, drain plugs, custom caps, oil/air separator kits, and more. Of course, proper design and quality of craftsmanship are no less crucial than aesthetics. We carry brand names that motorcyclists know and trust, which make sure their customers won’t end up with a leaky or malfunctioning tank, constantly loosening cap, breaking mounts, and other issues.
