Adventure/Touring Bike Cylinders

Browse by Vehicle

For any engine that uses fossil fuel to generate power, the combustion chamber is a crucial component designed to maintain the burning process and facilitate the transformation of that burning into useful energy. For your adventure or touring bike’s engine, that chamber, or chambers, comes in the form of cylinders. The selected diameter and height of the cylinders depend on the multitude of parameters of both the engine and the vehicle it’s fitted to. If your bike has an air-cooled motor, you see ribs around its cylinders. If the motor is liquid-cooled, there are no ribs but inner channels forming a water jacket.

A ribbed part has a few times larger surface area, which allows for dissipating heat into the atmosphere rather effectively. Such a design is used in most cruisers equipped with V-twins. The flow of air they encounter while moving at speed is enough for cooling the motor, but still, working in such conditions, it wears out sooner than its liquid-cooled counterparts. Fortunately, overhauling an air-cooled motor is easier and less expensive, at least, if you get replacement parts in our online store.
