The powerful engine of your motorcycle includes numerous moving parts such as a crankshaft, bearings, and pistons, and virtually any of them needs lubrication to run as smoothly as possible. Besides, the liquid also acts as a coolant, taking excessive heat away from the aforementioned components. The oil pump of a bike was engineered to circulate lubricant under the required pressure. Sometimes, this pressure is utilized to actuate hydraulic tappets in the valvetrain system. Most oil pumps are made from tough alloys to resist wear and high temps providing a lasting service life of tens of thousands of miles.
These parts are lubricated internally, and their breakdowns happen not so often. However, they have a limited lifespan and are not immune to failures.
