The timing chain and gears of your bike do a pretty important job while ensuring that the pistons don’t hit the valves – the occurrence that can easily cost you about as much as the whole new engine. Somewhat a more durable and reliable alternative to a timing belt, the chain doesn’t require often replacements. Many bike manufacturers even claim that the chain's service life is comparable to that of the engine itself – i.e. too long for you to worry about. In reality though, it can be otherwise. Usually, its replacement is a more complicated procedure than the replacement of the belt, and it can be somewhat more expensive.
