Sometimes, this pressure is utilized to actuate hydraulic tappets in the valvetrain system. Most oil pumps are made from tough alloys to resist wear and high temps providing a lasting service life of tens of thousands of miles.
These parts are lubricated internally, and their breakdowns happen not so often. However, they have a limited lifespan and are not immune to failures.
